Director & Head of Strategy Charlie Clark Reflects on How Minty Digital’s Simplicity Leads to Success
Although not an official business until 2017, Charlie Clark notes how Minty Digital has been a working concept since 2014.
“Our company was officially formed in 2017, but we have been working on the concept of Minty Digital since 2014! I used to sit in my friend’s restaurant after finishing work at my full time job as national marketing manager and build campaigns/ websites for local businesses.”
When starting out, Minty Digital was trying to perform all services. However, it found that sticking to it’s two most popular was most successful. Refining processes allowed for the company to have a more focused workflow. This resulted in being able to deliver more defined services to clients.
“For the first year we were running as a bit of a ‘do it all’ agency, offering anything from email marketing to chatbot development both in house and through our network of partners. It wasn’t until the end of year 2 when we realised all of our key results were coming from 2 areas which were: Search Engine Optimisation Pay Per Click Services.”
Clark believes that specializing in one or two areas is going to lead to more success than trying to be a “jack of all trades”.
“Although it’s a good idea to try a number of things when starting out, if you really stick to a niche then you are going to be able to offer a more refined service to your customers.”
While covering more areas seems like a better idea, specializing is more effective. Clark touches on how best to satisfy customers. At the end of the day, that should be your number one priority. Adding value should be seen as something special that the company has gone out of their way for, not something that is done so often that it’s not even noticed.
“Be a specialist and not a generalist. Customer satisfaction: Number one rule keep you customers happy. If this means over delivering sometimes then just do it. Although scope is very important and clients should know their limits, it doesn’t hurt sometimes to go out of your way and offer something more than what you currently agreed. Just let the customer know you are adding value otherwise they may get used to it!”
